THE NEWMAN HOTEL
Fitzrovia Finds Its Flair at The Newman
The Newman London
You don’t expect to find a massive, salt-walled sanctuary hidden beneath a nondescript street in W1, yet that’s exactly the surprise The Newman Hotel holds. While the West End swirls overhead, the life of this 81-room bolt-hole happens underground in its moody, cinematic spa and bars. It’s a high-end bunker for the design-obsessed.
Interiors lean into bohemian Fitzrovia roots: timber panelling, ochre velvet, and brass accents. The apartment-style rooms and sprawling wellness floor stand out, though you’ll appreciate them more once you’ve cleared the front desk, where your check-in can be a test after a long flight.
Once in, go for a Himalayan salt-sauna session, retreat to the hydrotherapy pool, or settle into the brasserie for art-deco glamour and a nightcap.
Rooms at the Newman
The Newman has 81 rooms, suites, and apartments that range from 27sqm to a 110sqm penthouse. The base rooms, the Classics and Superiors, start at 27sqm with queens or kings. There is enough space to spend a couple of nights in Fitzrovia. If you want more, the Studios and One Bedroom Suites have sofa beds and enough floor space to move around a bit more in.
Balconies & Terraces
For outdoor space, you’ll want the rooms with a Balcony or Terrace on the booking request. The Studio with a Terrace is a standout because the 15sqm outside is nearly half the size of the room itself. If you’re travelling as a group, they’ve set up connecting options between the Classics and Superiors, giving you up to 62sqm. At the top end, the Penthouse is a private rooftop; it has an Emperor bed and a 130sqm terrace that’s even bigger than the interior.
Rooms & Suites
The Newman Rooms
The rooms all share a specific Swedish Grace look – heavy timber, ochre velvet, and stone vanities. Even the Classics have the bespoke tiling and stone finishes in the bathrooms, but the Superiors and Deluxes add underfloor heating and more natural light through larger bay windows. The Studios and One Bedrooms shift the layout from a standard hotel room to an open-plan apartment with seating areas and writing desks.

Rooms & Suites
The Newman Suites
While the standard rooms come with a GHD hairdryer and the usual high-end basics, moving into the suites brings you a lot more. In a suite you get the full GHD set that includes a hairdryer, straightener, and curler. Here are the other perks:
- Travel: A one-way transfer to any London airport in an S-Class or V-Class.
- Arrival: In-room check-in, a bottle of Rathfinny sparkling wine, and seasonal flowers.
- The Extras: An expanded minibar with full-sized bottles and the option to have a Peloton brought up to the room.
The Penthouse takes it a step further, moving the basement’s wellness focus upstairs with a private sauna and cold plunge on the terrace.
Dining & Drinking at The Newman
At The Newman, dining and drinking are part of the neighbourhood rhythm. From leisurely breakfasts to late-night cocktails, the kitchen and bar serve up bold flavours, good conversation and a welcoming Fitzrovia buzz.

Dining at The Newman
Brasserie Angelica
Brasserie Angelica is the all-day restaurant on the ground floor.
The menu is a bit different for a London hotel. Instead of the usual French bistro style, it has a lot of Nordic dishes like pickled herring, gravadlax, and mushroom dumplings. They also do a classic British chicken pie if you want something more homely.
The place is clearly trying to bring in the local office crowds. At lunch, they have a trolley for Swedish open sandwiches (smorgasbord). It started out pretty quiet right after opening, but it seems to be filling up more now. Breakfast is cooked-to-order and feels like a proper meal too.
Drinking at The Newman
Gambit Bar
Gambit Bar is tucked away down a spiral staircase. It’s dark, low-ceilinged, and has a bit of a speakeasy vibe. The Art Deco look is dialled up with a massive copper bar and a sunburst ceiling, but there’s a darker, local subtext if you look at the floor. There are inlaid symbols referencing the occultist Aleister Crowley.
The energy changes depending on the night. During the week, it’s a standard spot for live jazz and a martini, but it shifts into a busier DJ-led space on the weekends. The drink list is pretty interesting, rather than just generic; they do a gin and coconut milk punch called ‘Let’s Play’ that’s worth a try. It’s also one of the few places that treats the non-alcoholic menu with the same level of detail as the spirits.

Wellness at the Newman
The entire basement is a dedicated wellness floor with a heavy Swedish Grace influence. It has a hydrotherapy pool with targeted jets, a high-spec gym for 1-2-1 sessions, and a full set of thermal rooms. The experience showers are a sensory trip; they do “cool fog” or “tropical rain” programs with actual bird calls and shifting lights.
Wellness at The Newman
The Ice Lounge
There is also an Ice Lounge kept at a steady 14°C, scented to wake you up before you cycle back into the sauna or steam room. It’s a minimalist space where the silence is as much a feature as the equipment.

Wellness at The Newman
The Halotherapy Salt Room
The halotherapy salt room is a quiet, amber-lit space where you just sit and breathe in salt-infused air to clear out the London grit. This room focuses on CBD mind-unwind rituals and deep Swedish massages.
The Newman Hotel Location
The hotel is on Newman Street in Fitzrovia. It’s a quiet pocket of the West End, but only a five-minute walk from the chaos of Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road. You’re basically ten minutes from Soho, Mayfair, and Marylebone, so it’s easy to get around on foot.
Public transport is the best way to get here. The Elizabeth Line from Heathrow to Tottenham Court Road takes about 35 minutes, followed by a short walk.
Who Should Book This Hotel?
The Newman hotel is great for adults who want a quiet, design-heavy base that doesn’t feel like a tourist hub. It’s also a win if you’re travelling with a dog. They’re pet-friendly here.
If you’re looking for kids’ clubs or high-energy family zones, you’ll be disappointed; this hotel is for people who want a serious spa and a sophisticated atmosphere in the middle of Fitzrovia. Here, an entire floor is carved out for recovery and heat. It’s a luxury hotel, so the price tag is naturally high, but you’re paying for a genuine retreat.
